New York New York "Fun and casual"
Had a great girls weekend away at this hotel and in Las Vegas! We were not there to gamble, just have a good time. The casino had nice high ceilings and was not overly crowded or noisy (very smoky though). The streets of NY food court was perfect for a quick, cheap bite and desperately needed coffee for breakfast. Definitely not an atmosphere of high-end glamour, more like a friendly, boozy 24hr hang out. Standard rooms were just fine, not the cleanest ever but a much nicer look than your average hotel chain. Location was great for first-time visitors with easy walking to MGM and Excalibur and two different monorail lines. Weather was hot and sunny and poolside was perfect for those afternoon naps.

New York New York "Not a bad choice for staying in Vegas..."
Since we couldn't fit New York in our USA trip, we thought we'd compensate by staying at the New York, New York hotel whilst in Las Vegas. It's not the glitziest hotel on the block but in my opinion, you don't get as bored in this hotel (that is, if you're not focused on gambling). There is shopping you can do, walk around the streets of new york (take away food) or just hang out in the bar in the middle of the casino - the one that has everyone singing-a-long to every tune that 2 guys on a piano play (it's good to watch and has a great atmosphere). Our room was fine - clean and comfortable. We did upgrade to a suite, but the original was ok, jus a bit on the small side (King bed). I have to admit, I was a little worried about the noise the rollercoaster would make, but all you can here is the odd faint screams here and there. I think the rollercoaster runs from 11am daily. As for customer service, checking in and checking out was quite robotic, the lady at the tour desk could of been a little bit more helpful, she was quite cold and abrupt...Location wise, it's on one end of the strip so if you wanted to check out Wynn, Treasure Island, Stratosphere etc.. then set aside a few hours of walking or catch the monorail (starts from MGM which is across the road from NY NY). If you looking for a very plush hotel, with lots of glitz and glamour, then New York New York is not the hotel for you - it's a city within a city but very high on the fun factor :)
